Office of the Dean
“Our mission here at Harvard Chan School is simple, but profound: We aim to build a world with health, dignity, and justice for all — a world where everyone can thrive.”
— Andrea Baccarelli, MD, PhD, Dean of the Faculty

Strategic Vision
Harvard Chan School is a special place—home to brilliant faculty, students, trainees, researchers, and staff working toward a healthier world. The School has a tremendous record of positive impact, stretching back more than a century. Yet it is currently at an inflection point.
As part of a series of actions targeting Harvard University, the U.S. government has terminated nearly every federal grant and contract awarded to support vital health research at Harvard Chan School. The abrupt revocation of federal grants has created a budget crisis, requiring painful cuts.
Harvard Chan School cannot maintain the status quo. As difficult as that is, it also presents an opportunity to reimagine both the research and educational missions, tailoring them to meet the needs of the future. That work is going on right now, guided by Dean Baccarelli’s “Harvard Chan 2030” vision and his “AAA Strategy” for a School that is agile, accessible, and accountable.
Havard Chan 2030
Harvard Chan School will emerge from this crisis a focused, resilient, and unambiguously world-class school of public health, dedicated to excellence and impact and strengthened by surprising, solutions-focused partnerships.
We will lead the world in our chosen fields of research. We will offer a thoughtful array of educational options to reach public health professionals and leaders at every stage of their careers, wherever they may live. On campus and online, we will nurture an inclusive community where respectful debate thrives.
Most importantly, we will continue to work together, with purpose and passion, to build a world where everyone can thrive.
The AAA Strategy
Agile
Entrepreneurial; poised to break through silos and challenge traditional boundaries.
Accessible
Committed to expanding access to both our education and our research.
Accountable
Upholding our community values; dedicated to providing value to society.
